What is the width of a normal gap between planks?

 First of all it isn't a manufacturing defect, it is a sign that your floor is making itself comfortable at your home. It is acceptable for the gap to be the thickness of a dime. When the floor reaches its equilibrium moisture content within your home it will likely contract.
